This route – inaugurated in 2023 to mark the 450th anniversary of the Siege of Sancerre that took place in 1573 – starts at the Musée de la Maison, 8 Rue St Denis, Sancerre then proceeds down the Porte Oison (where there is a memorial to the Scots in Sancerre on one of the big houses on the right); then descending through the vineyards to the quayside at St Thibault, by the River Loire, where the Gallo-Romans once had a bridge (or two) and then heads off in any direction you please, taking in, among other locations of your own Stevensonian choice, Skerryvore Park in Bournemouth and ultimately leading, via a lot of imagination and close examination of maps, and Stevenson texts to the Polynesian Island of Samoa. BUT, for now, it all starts here:
A guide to the route is available in both French and English from the Sancerre tourist office, Porte Caesar
